Bike Repair

We Can Fix Any Bike

Freewheeler Bike Shop employs no less than 3 full-time mechanics and as many as 5-6 during peak season. Service is an integral part of our business and we are passionate about keeping those in and around Grand Rapids rolling strong. We can assure you a quick turn around on your tune-up/repair and we guarantee all of our work.

We are a full service bike shop. With all their moving parts, proper maintenance on a bicycle is just as important as on a car. Everything wears down with use. Riding a bike that isn't properly maintained not only functions poorly, but also causes premature wear costing you more in the long run. Freewheeler can help you keep your bike working its best with our tune-up services.  We will make sure your bike is properly adjusted and lubricated for a great ride!

We work on a first come first serve basis. No appointment needed! Drop you bike off any day anytime and we will have it back to you in 2-3 days!

Here are 5 quick maintenance tips to help keep your bike rolling strong:

  • Keep it clean:  Not easy... we know.  Nothing will keep your bike problem free like keeping it clean.  A bucket of soapy water, an old toothbrush and a sponge will do the trick.  Using a proper bicycle degreaser will really help get the grime out of the drivetrain as well.  Remember:  Wash, rinse, dry, lube, adjust, and wax.

  • Lubricate, lubricate, lubricate.  Do it... and your chain, sprocket and cassette will thank you.  We recommend cleaning and lubricating your chain as often as you can.  Many of our riders/racers will wipe down and lubricate after each ride, leaving them a bike that is ready to ride the next time they want to hit the road or the trail.  This one simple thing can save you a lot of money.  Parts break down quicker when they are not properly lubricated.  Not only that, your bike will run much smoother.  Lubricating any metal on metal or moving parts is also recommended.  If you have questions on how to properly lubricate your bike, simply ask one of our staff and we'll give you a quick lesson.

  • Check your tire pressure.  Did you know that most tires lost at least 1 lb of pressure every single day?  The best way to avoid a flat tire is to have proper tire pressure.  Every time you get on your bike you should check your tire pressure.  Make it habit and your chances of being stranded will be much lower and you will prolong the life of your tires.

  • Give your bike a checkup.  We don't recommend being obsessed about checking over your bike every ride, but let's not ignore the fact that parts won't wear out, components won't break and things won't loosen up over time.  Just become familiar with your bike so if something isn't right, you are the first to know it.

  • Have your bike serviced.  We'll see things going on with your bike that you won't.  Why?  Because it's our job.  Depending on how much you ride you should have your bike looked at by a local shop at least once or twice a year.
